I used to write long detailed notes in my fandoms about what canon I was using and what canon I was ignoring and if I was drawing from the anime version or the manga version. ;p With Smallville, I mostly don't bother. But since I mostly only draw off s1-3, it doesn't really matter as much. (or I'm probably just lazier nowadays.)
I rather adore all stories that seaouryou writes because she actually uses *all* canon and then makes excessively cracky sense of it all. ;D That's quite a feat!
My opinion is everybody can adapt canon to their own personal fanon as they will. Yeah sure, ignore the Lex killed Lionel episode too... ^^
I think the distinguishing factor for the fans who remember only Lex-hurts-Clark is that they would rather conform to the traditional "Lex Luthor is evil" view; which, admittedly is the DC World - Lex in that is *really* nasty. o.o They're just pulling the corresponding facts from Smallville to match that view. They're probably not so much 'Clark' fans so much (though they might self-identify like that for lack of another term), and I'd bet a lot of them came into the show later on. People get very attached to the version of characters that they see first, which can make a big difference depending on what characterization they were in at the time. {shrug} They're version is still valid too; however, they really should just mention that they're ignoring the Clark-hurt-Lex parts.. but they're mostly writing for people in their own corner of the world, so notes tend to get forgotten. Actually, nobody seems to write notes like that much anymore. And since I don't either, well, oh well... ^^;
Hey, I spent a few years working out the Ray Wars with Due South fans -- Smallville fans have *nothing* on that! ;p
