I'd rather post another story than a summary, but that's kind of how the end of the year went. Sorry about that. I've got one more huge work project coming up at the beginning of this year, sort of a sequel project, but hopefully it won't consume several months like this other one. And hopefully I don't catch a cold on the end of the project. When I read last year's summary post and that 2011 suffered in writing, and then I look at 2012... I'm *really* crossing my fingers that 2013 will be better! I think 2012 was a bit of a miss for a lot of us.
The Story Index for reference.
(note - chose as many/few fics as you want in each category... whichever ones you liked best!)
[Poll #1888282]
Total word count:
Finished and posted: 86,136 in 15 stories ({wince} that number should have been a lot higher!)
Unfinished: 21,632 (not counting the epic thing that's still hanging out there from a couple years back, and any other stories partially written but not added to in this year)
Types:
One-Shot: 13
Sequels/Series/TimeStamps: 2
For:
Challenge: 10
Self: 3
Gift/Request/Auction: 2 (1 still owed o.o)
High Points of the Year:
Most of this year was in the beginning of the year, lol. I think the main highlight was finishing the auction fic, Fixing Things. That one had taken over a year to write and ended up being 45k, which is not the longest thing I've ever written, but it really took a long time. I'm glad it's done, and I feel pretty good about it. I also got some more of the Not a Villain stories out, though I'd planned for more. I participated in Porn Battle for the first time this year so I'm glad I did that.
Low Points:
Too many bunnies and not enough time. Seriously not enough time. Most of that was a huge work project that took half my life at the end of the year, and some was my own fault for playing games on my downtime instead of writing. Which is great stress relief, but didn't get stories written. I need to find a balance in there somewhere. I didn't get *nearly* the number of fics done I wanted to, and my "unfinished" amount of writing almost equals the words of the finished. Okay, one fourth, but still.
My favorite fic(s) this year:
I definitely liked The Marriage Project best. That was was just sheer *fun* to do. ;D Another Way to Fly was also something I'd been wanting to write for a long time and finally just went ahead and did it and I was glad I had. A bunny worth doing. ^^
My least favorite fic(s) this year:
IDK. I'm not all that fond of several of the ficlets, probably because I didn't put a lot of myself into them, but... it's hard to pick one as "the least". Perhaps, Around the World: Paris, simply because that didn't come out the way I was envisioning it and words take longer to write then to envision. It was originally supposed to be a whole series of sex in different areas from the throw of the dart, but just writing *one* sex scene took forever. Can't just do a wham, bang, thank you. So it lost a bit by just having one location, I think.
Most successful fic:
The Marriage Project ended up being a surprise hit. It was fun for me to write, but I didn't realize it was going to be so *popular*. I'm happy it was also fun for people to read! :)
Most fun fic:
Again, The Marriage Project. ;D
Most poignant fic:
Last year I had a bunch of angsty, so I steered away from it this year. The most poignant of the ones that did get finished would have to be Clone to Kent, A Process.
Hardest fic to write:
Fixing Things was a bit like pulling teeth to write. It was good and it was a story that wanted to be told, but it took freaking forever to write and with no decent reason either. Still, I'm glad it got done. Just wish it hadn't taken so *long* to get done.
Bunnies that are jumping out of the pen:
BUNNIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bunnies are overflowing and there's not enough time to write.
1. Finish Making Plans (the next Not a Villain story). And the next few after that.
2. Haunted House (it was supposed to be for Halloween Clexmas, but, um, next one. ^^;;;)
3. FINISH BUBBLES!!! Dang it. ;p
4. And Returnings. Those two are so close to being done it's ridiculous that they're not.
5. Deadman's Switch. I really want to get that mega-huge one done.
6. Beyond the Veil sequel, the Amerindian adventure.
7. Cat fic.
8. Tempest.
And well, dozens of others. ^^;;;
The things I've learned this year:
Where the heck did the year go? o.o Um, I learned that work and fic don't mix? Or games either. Need to find my balance! And still have a life.
For 2012:
1. Reply to the comments! The RL work didn't just derail the fic writing, it derailed my replies to comments, so they've been piling up for a few months. Must. Reply. to Comments.
2. Remember to update the index! I found a few stories I hadn't gotten in there. Oops.
3. WRITE FIC!
Happy 2013, everybody! :)
