Sometimes I'm not sure whether Smallville is a heroic epic or a tragic one. LOL, great way to put it. :) Personally, I'd say tragic. Though I think they're finally working their way up to heroic recently. Yay for TW being able to take his character where *he* wants it to go.
If I didn't personally subscribe to the idea that Lex and Clark really were best friends beyond what we saw in the show, it is easier to accept how they fell apart so easily. Clark as shown in the show doesn't really pursue the friendship as much as Lex does or ever really put as much faith in it. We're left to infer it more. But without that inference... Clark can (and does) destroy Lex without ever knowing about it.
Because I like the friendship, though, I have to make Clark see that angst. ^^ He can take it, as long as he makes it right too. We'll make sure he does. ;D
