I could have said that better. ^^ What I meant was in all the Smallville alternate universe stories. In other renderings of the Superman universe, no, not really. o.o
Though I will admit to thinking the best line ever in L&C was when Luthor was talking to Lois, "Duh! Glass - Clark Kent; no glasses - Superman! How stupid can you get?" That just cracked me up so bad when watching it... (wow, that was a few years back).
And in the comic world? No way. Luthor really is too slimy and evil there. Even in my precious gold and silver era comics (my favorite Superman era), Luthor was... well, insane. Certifiably so. So, well, no. Though Superman did treat him pretty gently all the time, always hoping for the best of Luthor.
I will admit to also stifling giggles over the last Superman movie, because that scene towards the end where Luthor has Superman pinned down on the kryptonite crystals and is beating him up? It seriously looked like a spurned lover's quarrel. A violent nasty one, but a spurned lover all the same.
Smallville AUs, though are the only ones I really pair Lex up on. I totally blame Michael Rosenblum for that. :)
